President John Dramani Mahama has relaunched the National Sanitation Day (NSD), urging Ghanaians to embrace personal and collective responsibility in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

The initiative was officially reintroduced on Saturday, September 6, at the Institute of Local Government Studies in Madina, as part of the broader “Clean Up Ghana” agenda.

Under the programme, nationwide clean-up exercises will be held on the first Saturday of every month.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Mahama described the NSD as a civic duty that transcends politics, ethnicity, and religion.

“The National Sanitation Day is a call to action—an opportunity for every Ghanaian to unite in keeping our surroundings clean,” he stated.

He explained that the exercise aims to build a culture of routine cleaning, reduce the risk of disease outbreaks, enhance sanitation and hygiene practices, improve the appearance of towns and cities, and boost Ghana’s tourism appeal.

The President further underscored the importance of collaboration, noting that government agencies, traditional leaders, faith-based organisations, schools, businesses, and the general public all have a vital role to play.

“We are not just cleaning our environment; we are safeguarding the health of our people, protecting the environment, and leaving behind a legacy for future generations,” he emphasised.
