The National Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Major (Rtd) Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon, has visited the Upper West Region to assess the plight of families displaced by the recent Gbineyiri conflict.

Dr. Kuyon held a closed-door meeting with the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) in Wa, where discussions centred on security strategies and humanitarian interventions to restore calm and support victims of the clashes.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Dr. Kuyon reaffirmed NADMO’s resolve to provide both emergency relief and long-term support.

“Our priority is to provide immediate relief and long-term support for those affected.

We are working with REGSEC and other partners to ensure that food, shelter, and essential items are delivered promptly,” he said.

Following his engagement with REGSEC, Dr. Kuyon, accompanied by the Mayor of Wa Municipal Assembly, Alhaji Nurah Issa Danwana, paid a courtesy call on the Wa Naa, Naa Fusieni Pelpuo IV, at his palace.

The Overlord expressed deep concern over recurring violence in the area and called for unity.

“Conflict only brings destruction and pain. I urge all factions to lay down their arms and allow peace to prevail for the sake of our future generations,” Naa Pelpuo IV appealed.

The Gbineyiri clashes stem from disputes over land and chieftaincy, resulting in loss of lives, destruction of property, and mass displacement.

Hundreds of residents have abandoned their homes, seeking refuge in nearby communities and temporary shelters.

NADMO has announced plans to dispatch relief items, including food, mattresses, and tents, to affected families.

Security agencies have also intensified patrols to prevent further violence and safeguard displaced communities.

Dr. Kuyon assured that NADMO will continue to work with local authorities, traditional leaders, and development partners to implement a comprehensive response plan addressing both immediate humanitarian needs and long-term recovery.
