Mallam-Kasoa road: Monday rains hold commuters in 9-hour gridlock

The Mallam-Weija road remained at a standstill until Tuesday dawn following heavy rainfall on Monday, May 13, causing severe traffic congestion that persisted into the morning hours.
Residents, including those returning from night shifts, were forced to navigate through flooded streets to reach their homes.
The gridlock resulted from both sides of the road being blocked by silt washed onto the thoroughfare during the downpour, compounded by multiple vehicle breakdowns.
Some commuters endured several hours of travel before finally arriving home on Tuesday morning.
Many resorted to walking due to a lack of available transportation options.
Meanwhile, heavy-duty trucks bound for the Central and Western Regions were parked along the route, with drivers hoping for improved traffic conditions before continuing their journey.
The challenging conditions also affected vehicles traveling from Kasoa to Kaneshie, Lapaz, and Dansoman.
This has been the situation on that stretch of road for several years.
