Monday’s heavy downpour causes massive gridlock on Mallam-Kasoa highway persisting into Tuesday dawn

The Mallam-Weija road experienced significant gridlock on Monday evening, 13 May 2024, that persisted into Tuesday, 14 May 2024, dawn following a heavy downpour around 4pm.
The vehicular traffic continued well into Tuesday morning, causing immense inconvenience to residents.
The gridlock stemmed from both sides of the road being obstructed by silt washed onto the thoroughfare by the rain. Additionally, several vehicles breaking down exacerbated the situation, further hindering the flow of traffic.
Individuals stranded on the road reported spending several hours before finally reaching their homes by Tuesday dawn. Some residents resorted to wading through the flooded waters to navigate their way home, while others struggled to find alternative transportation options.
The congestion affected various routes, with heavy-duty trucks bound for the Central and Western Regions also impacted.
Drivers, hoping for improved traffic conditions, parked their vehicles along the road while awaiting clearance.
Motorists traveling from Kasoa to Kaneshie, Lapaz, and Dansoman faced similarly challenging conditions, adding to the widespread disruption caused by the gridlock.
