NDC Youth Wing expresses solidarity with nurses and midwives
In a resolute stance against what they deem as government neglect, the Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has voiced their unequivocal support for the Graduate Unemployed Nurses and Midwives Association (GUNMA) and the Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association.
In an official statement released on Monday, April 15, 2024, and signed by George Opare Addo, the National Youth Organizer of the NDC, condemned the government's apparent disregard for the plight of graduate nurses and midwives.
The statement highlighted the imminent protests organized by GUNMA and the Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association scheduled for April 16, 2024.
The NDC Youth Wing's statement labelled the situation as "utterly disgraceful," emphasizing the years of training and qualification undertaken by these healthcare professionals only to face unemployment.
The lack of staffing within the healthcare sector due to this unemployment was cited as a severe issue exacerbated by the government's alleged incompetence and indifference
Of particular concern to the NDC Youth Wing was the government's failure to fulfil its obligations to the Rotational Nurses and Midwives, withholding their allowances for an extended period.
This action was described as a "gross injustice" and a breach of trust.
In a show of solidarity, the NDC Youth Wing pledged their full support to GUNMA and the Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association, denouncing the government's neglect and demanding immediate action to address the grievances of these healthcare professionals.
The statement concluded with a firm call to the government to honour its promises, prioritize the welfare of healthcare workers, and rectify the injustices they have endured. Failure to do so, the NDC Youth Wing warned, would further erode trust and confidence in the government's ability to govern effectively and protect its citizens' interests
