General News
Mining company's property torched

The Municipal Chief Executive for Nzema East, Mr Herbert Kuah Dickson, has condemned the clash between the youth of Adelekezo, a farming community near Axim, and JAS Mining Company, which resulted in the death of a 13-year-old boy and destruction of property.

In a statement, Mr Kuah Dickson assured residents of the Assembly's commitment to investigate the incident and restore peace in the community.

He emphasised that the Assembly will not shield anyone found to have orchestrated the clash.

According to the statement, the Municipal Security Council had arrested some Chinese nationals working with the company in September 2025 for operating without proper documentation.

The company, however, had legal documents for large-scale concession mining, and investigations revealed that it had not commenced operations at the time of the arrest.

The Assembly has commenced an investigation into the cause of the clash and will ensure proper engagement between the parties to promote peace and harmony.

The public is assured of calm while investigations are conducted.

The Assembly expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and wished all affected victims a speedy recovery.
