Owusu-Bio inspects ongoing GFIP reclamation projects

Benito Owusu-Bio on the inspection tour

On September 13th, 2023, Benito Owusu-Bio, the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources in charge of Lands and Forestry, led a delegation of officers from the Ministry overseeing the Ghana Forest Investment Project (GFIP) on a two-day working visit to the Bekwai and Bibiana Forest Districts, with the aim of assessing the progress of ongoing World Bank/GFIP reclamation projects.

The team included Mr. Tabi Agyarko (Project Manager) and Mr. Macdana Yunus (Chief Planning Officer) from GFIP, as well as Mr. Hugh Brown (Executive Director) from the Forest Services Division of the Forestry Commission.

During a media interaction held alongside the visit, Mr Owusu-Bio expressed his satisfaction with the work accomplished thus far in the Supuma Forestry area, which is situated in the Bekwai District.

He encouraged the contractor and the project team to ensure they achieve a flawless finish in their assigned tasks.

Before heading to the project site in the Supuma forest, the Deputy Minister paid a brief visit to the staff of the Bekwai Forestry Commission. During this interaction, he commended the staff for their dedication and hard work in combating illegal activities within the forest district.

He also assured them of the government's unwavering commitment and support, pledging to make their work easier in any way possible.

As part of their inspection, the team is scheduled to proceed to the Bibiani Forest District on September 14th, 2023, to conclude their two-day working tour.
