Planned GhATSEA strike thwarted by security deployment
Members of the Ghana Air Traffic Safety Electronics Association (GhATSEA), operating under the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), have revealed that their planned strike over welfare concerns, scheduled for January 15, 2026, was prevented following intervention by the Director-General of GCAA, Rev Stephen Wilfred Arthur, using National Security operatives.
According to GhATSEA members, the intended industrial action was disrupted by the deployment of National Security operatives across aviation facilities, which they claim was aimed at intimidating staff and preventing them from regrouping.
In interviews, Association members said security personnel were positioned throughout the aviation space, effectively stopping members from mobilising for the strike.
The move comes amid ongoing disputes over welfare conditions and benefits for the Association members, which represents critical air traffic safety electronics personnel nationwide.
While the Director-General of GCAA has reportedly called the bluff of the members to strike.
Reports say the D-G is going around forcing some managers to work even though GhATSEA has declared a strike over welfare issues in the aviation sector.
Members insist that the underlying welfare issues remain unresolved and have called for the strike to continue
