Presby Church elects new moderator
The 23rd General Assembly (GA) of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has chosen Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye as the incoming Moderator.
Holding a PhD in Church History and currently a lecturer at the University of Ghana, Rev. Dr. Opare Kwakye emerged victorious in the election process.
During the nomination stage at the 23rd General Assembly, the GA Presbytery Chairperson secured 119 out of 276 votes, representing 52% of the total.
Rev. Dr. Seth Kissi secured the second position with 54 votes, equivalent to 23.6%, and Rev. Dr. Opuni Frimpong achieved 22 votes, making up 9.6% of the votes.
Subsequently, the second and third candidates withdrew their candidacies, leading to a 'Yes' or 'No' vote for Rev. Dr. Opare Kwakye.
The General Assembly overwhelmingly voted in favour, with 97% "YES" votes amounting to 270, and only 6 "NO" votes, accounting for 3%.
Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye will become the 19th Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.
He succeeds Rev. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante.
