Saglemi Not For Sale Coalition petitions gov't to hand over project to TDC Ghana Ltd

The Saglemi Not For Sale Coalition has formally petitioned the Government of Ghana to halt any intended sale of the uncompleted Saglemi Housing Project and instead hand it over to TDC Ghana Ltd, a state-owned housing and infrastructure development agency, for completion and allocation to the public.
In a strongly worded petition signed by the Convener of the coalition, Nana Otu Darko, the group emphasised that the Saglemi Housing Project is a national asset, funded by public resources and originally envisioned as a key response to Ghana’s growing housing deficit.
According to the coalition, the project symbolises “public investment and collective aspiration for affordable housing” and must remain under state control to serve the needs of ordinary Ghanaians.
The group is advocating for TDC Ghana Limited to be entrusted with the completion, management, and allocation of the project, citing the agency’s impressive track record and institutional capacity.
The petition highlights TDC’s successful execution of major public housing initiatives such as the Kpone Affordable Housing Project, where 1,072 units have been completed with 800 more under construction, and the Site 3 Infill Housing Project, which delivered 128 residential units.
“TDC has the technical competence, public sector orientation, and logistical capacity to mobilise swiftly and ensure end-to-end development,” the petition noted.
The coalition warned that transferring the project to private developers would not only undermine public trust but could also jeopardise affordability and accessibility for the average Ghanaian.
They outlined three key demands:
Immediate suspension of any planned sale of the Saglemi Housing Project to private entities;
Official transfer of the project to TDC Ghana Ltd for public completion and management.
Financial and institutional backing to ensure the swift resumption and completion of the project.
“The Saglemi Housing Project was built with public funds for public benefit.
It must not be sold. It must be completed – and completed by the state for the people,” the coalition insisted.
