Mr Francis Asenso-Boakye, the Minister for Roads and Highways, recently visited the Tema Motorway to assess the progress of Phase 2 of the ongoing project.

During the inspection, he urged the contractor to expedite the works for a potential early completion by October 2024.

The project, designed to alleviate heavy traffic congestion on the Tema Motorway, is advancing smoothly and was initially slated for completion by December 2024.

The Minister, expressing his satisfaction with the current progress, stated, "I am happy to see at first-hand the rate of progress that is currently happening here."

He further emphasised the government's commitment to ensuring the timely completion of the project.

Asenso-Boakye further revealed that he had addressed outstanding matters related to tax exemptions in a meeting with the Ambassador of Japan to Ghana, ensuring the project's smooth continuation.

The Tema Motorway project, titled "Project for the Improvement of the Tema Motorway Roundabout Phase 2," was initiated to address traffic congestion at the Tema intersection. Phase 1, completed in June 2020, converted the roundabout into a two-tier intersection.

Phase 2, underway since July 2022 with a contract duration of 28 months, involves constructing a third-tier flyover to separate through and left-turning traffic.

The project, funded by a $27 million Japanese grant, aims to enhance urban mobility, logistics, and trade integration in the Greater Accra Region and the ECOWAS sub-region.

The contractor had initially projected commissioning by December this year, but Asenso-Boakye's directive aims to expedite the completion, possibly by October 2024, to benefit motorists and the public sooner.
