Vetting of CJ nominee today

Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo, the Chief Justice (CJ) nominee, is expected to face the Appointments Committee of Parliament today, 26 May 2023.
Juctice Torkornoo was nominated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in April.
Her nomination is subject to approval by Parliament.
Justice Torkornoo will replace Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah, if she gets the nod from Parliament.
Justice Anin-Yeboah retired on Wednesday, 24 May 2023.
In a letter to the Council of State, President Akufo-Addo said Justice Torkornoo, who has been “on the Supreme Court for the last four years and has been a member of the Judiciary for the last 19 years, is duly qualified and eminently fit to discharge the functions of Chief Justice.”
According to the president, her nomination was to avoid any vacuum that would occur following the retirement of Justice Anin-Yeboah.
