Members of the Association of Institutional Suppliers have voiced their frustration with the government's persistent delays in paying their debts accumulated over the past three years.
Today, on April 8, 2024, these members staged a protest outside the premises of the Ministry of Education to demand immediate action from the government.
In an interview on the Ghana Yensom morning show on Accra 100.5 FM, hosted by Kaakyire Kwesi Appea-Apreku, Alhaji Ahmed Tahir, the National Secretary of the Association, expressed deep disappointment on behalf of the members.
He highlighted the frustration of suppliers who have yet to receive payment for materials supplied to students in Form Two and Form Three, particularly for the Free Secondary School programme.
According to Tahir, despite repeated attempts to secure payment, the Association has only encountered promises from the Ministry of Education, with no tangible results.
Frustrated by this lack of action, the Association decided to picket the Ministry's premises, giving the Minister a two-week ultimatum to address the issue.
Ahaji Tahir warned that if no satisfactory resolution is reached within this timeframe, the Association will continue their protests until their debts are settled.
This action underscores the seriousness of the situation and the determination of the Association to pursue their rightful payments.
According to him, the protest serves as a reminder to the government of its obligations to suppliers and the importance of timely and transparent financial transactions in fostering a conducive business environment
