The Ashanti Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr. Fred Adomako-Boateng, has underscored the need to strengthen primary healthcare to improve health outcomes in the region.

Speaking at the Integrated 2024 Annual Performance Review and First Quarter Health System Innovations Review meeting, Dr. Adomako-Boateng acknowledged progress in key health indicators, including family planning acceptance rates, maternal healthcare, and audit compliance.

However, he highlighted persistent challenges, particularly in maternal mortality, which remains above the target of 125 deaths per 100,000 live births.

To address these concerns, he advocated for enhanced primary healthcare, emphasizing the importance of collaborative networks, stakeholder engagement, and well-resourced health centres.

He also stressed the need for effective Community-based Health Planning Services (CHPS) to bring quality healthcare closer to the people.

 

Dr. Adomako-Boateng called on health authorities, policymakers, and development partners to prioritize investments in primary healthcare, ensuring accessible and sustainable healthcare for all.
