The Provider Relations Unit of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has held a two-day sensitisation programme at Nima Polyclinic in the Greater Accra Region following concerns about payments involving an NHIS member and the facility.

The exercise, which took place on Thursday, February 19 and Friday, February 20, 2026, was led by Ms. Hamdiya Amadu Yakubu, Deputy Director of Provider Claims and Relations (PCR).

She was accompanied by Mr. Judge Opoku Sarkodie, Senior Manager (PCR); Mr. Isaac Boamah-Darko, Manager; Adriana Akyaa Afriyie,  Senior Officer; Juliet Asamoah, Senior Officer; and Hadassah Seli Agbenyo, Officer.

The visit aimed to clarify NHIS procedures for clinic staff and reinforce standards that safeguard members’ entitlements under the scheme.

The NHIA team engaged the facility’s Administrator, Mr. Abdul Aziz Baturi, as well as the Medical Superintendent and Midwife, Mrs. Laryea, along with other frontline staff.

During the engagements, the team reviewed NHIS operational processes, outlined services and medicines covered under the scheme, and stressed the importance of transparent communication with patients regarding their benefits.

Staff were advised not to compel patients to purchase brand-name medicines when equivalent alternatives covered by the NHIS are available, and to provide patients with options where necessary.

The discussions revealed that some staff members were not fully conversant with certain NHIS rules and coverage provisions.

Clinic personnel described the training as beneficial and timely.

Management also disclosed that the facility’s laboratory is yet to receive NHIS accreditation.

The NHIA team encouraged the clinic to initiate the accreditation process to enhance access to services for NHIS members.

Mr. Baturi and Mrs. Laryea expressed appreciation to the Authority for the visit and pledged to ensure strict adherence to NHIS guidelines.

They further called for regular sensitisation programmes to strengthen compliance and collaboration.
