E/R : Family of 5-year-old hole-in-heart patient cry for surgery support

The family of a five-year-old girl, Lordina Nyameye, are appealing for help so she could undergo surgery to cure her hole-in-heart condition.
The family, who are residents in Effiduase, a suburb of Koforidua in the New Juaben North Municipality of the Eastern region, say Lordina has been suffering from the condition for over a year.
According to her 24-year-old mother, Abena Serwaa, who is not of sound mind, they had no idea of the illness until they realised she was breathing faster than usual.
Abena Serwaa's grandmother, Maame Abena kwakyewaa, indicated that they sent her to Seventh Day Adventist hospital in Koforidua and were given some drugs but later referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
Lordina was later diagnosed with a hole-in-the-heart condition, requiring surgery.
But Lordina's family cannot afford the cost of the surgery.
Lordina Nyameye's class teacher at Effiduase Methodist C, Madam Josephine Tettey, said nurses who come on routine tests also discovered that she had a hole in her heart.
He mother was told about it and she also confirmed that they were aware of the little girl's condition but because the family is financially handicapped, they are unable to cater for her medical needs.
Madam Josephine revealed that little Lordina is always quiet when she comes to school.
She observed that Lordina breathes faster and feels sleepy anytime learning is ongoing.
Lordina is not punctual as well.
Madam Josephine, therefore, joined the family to appeal to non-governmental organisations, especially those who undertake health-centred projects, to assist Lordina and her family.
