W/R: GHS revokes partnership award to Okobeng Mining Company Limited

The Western Regional directorate of Ghana Health Service (GHS) has revoked an earlier award to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Okobeng Mining Company Limited, Nana Okobeng Amponsah.
According to the GHS, the company has been cited in a series of petitions by the chiefs and people of Prestea for acts that run counter to the principles behind the award.
The regional directorate made the revocation of the award in a statement signed by the Regional Director, Dr Yaw Ofori-Yeboah, dated March 30, 2023.
The statement said the directorate routinely has hounored individuals for their support to the health sector in the region as part of the directorate's Annual Performance Review process.
“Your name was submitted among others for consideration this year and following the award, presented to you on 28/03/23, we have received numerous complaints with copious evidence against you and the operations of your company, Okobeng Mining Company Limited.
“This includes environmental degradation which has significant implications for health in the region,” the GHS said.
