2016 elections: Bawumia didn’t campaign for himself –Kwabena Agyepong clarifies

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyepong, has urged the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to halt its “sinister campaign” against the party’s 2024 Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Mr. Agyepong criticized what he described as propaganda aimed at discrediting Dr. Bawumia’s shift of focus to digitalization.
According to him, Dr. Bawumia’s current emphasis reflects his vision for Ghana’s future and the potential of digitalization to transform the economy.
Mr. Agyepong clarified that Dr. Bawumia’s advocacy for economic reforms during the 2016 elections was on behalf of President Akufo-Addo.
“When Dr. Bawumia was campaigning on the economy in 2016, he was not doing it for himself but for the President.
Now, as a Presidential Candidate, he is championing digitalization, a field with immense potential to change lives,” he said.
He highlighted the Vice President’s achievements in implementing over 30 digitalization policies, which have positively impacted many Ghanaians.
Mr. Agyepong also noted that mobile money interoperability has allowed 80% of people in the informal sector to conduct business with ease, demonstrating Dr. Bawumia’s understanding of Ghana’s challenges and innovative solutions.
“Digitalization is the new world order, and Dr. Bawumia knows the enormous benefits it holds for our teeming unemployed youth,” Mr. Agyepong stated, adding that Dr. Bawumia plans to create one million jobs through outsourcing initiatives for the youth if elected.
Mr. Agyepong urged Ghanaians to recognize Dr. Bawumia’s forward-thinking approach, asserting that digitalization is key to unlocking the country’s economic potential and creating sustainable jobs for the youth.
