The government spokesperson for security and administration Dr Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, has revealed the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to officially present Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh as Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate.
The presentation ceremony is scheduled to take place at Jubilee Park in the Ashanti Region.
The announcement of Dr Opoku Prempeh, affectionately known as NAPO, as Dr Bawumia’s running mate for the 2024 general elections has generated a buzz among Ghanaians, eliciting a wide range of reactions.
Some citizens are excited about the choice, praising Dr Opoku Prempeh’s extensive experience and track record in education and energy, some are skeptical, questioning his ability to attract votes, and others still have criticised NAPO for what they call arrogance.
Meanwhile, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has publicly expressed his gratitude to the National Executive Council (NEC) of the NPP for approving Dr Opoku Prempeh as his running mate.
Alhaji Bawumia commended the NEC for recognising Manhyia South MP Opoku Prempeh’s qualifications and capabilities, describing him as "astute and brilliant".
The date is yet to be communicated for the official presentation of Napo as the NPP's vice presidential candidate ahead of the December 7 general elections.
