Agyapadie: NDC challenges Okyehene to report matter to police
The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on Okyehene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin to provide a clearer response to the controversy surrounding the "Agyapadie" document.
The NDC contends that the Chief of Abuakwa State's denial of knowledge of the document is insufficient.
Earlier this week, the Okyehene addressed the circulating "Agyapadie" document, dismissing it as a complete fabrication intended to incite hatred against the Ofori Panin household and the people of Okyeman.
He stated that the document, filled with false, revised, and concocted allegations, was being used to fuel animosity towards the Akyem people and falsely portrayed as part of a grand scheme by Ofori Panin Fie to exploit Ghana.
Former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom under former President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, Mr. Victor Smith, has urged the Okyehene to take the matter to the Inspector-General of the Ghana Police Service, Dr. George Akufo-Dampare, to investigate the source and authors of the document.
Mr Smith argued that merely denying knowledge of the document is not enough; the Okyehene should officially report the matter to the police, stating that his image has been misused in connection with a document he had no knowledge of.
This, according to Mr Smith, would protect the interests of both the Chief and the people of Akyem, as he himself is an Akyem and hails from the Eastern Region.
Mr Smith issued this challenge to the Okyehene while reacting to his statement on the Citizen's Show, hosted by Nana Bobie Ansah on Accra 100.5 FM on Wednesday, August 7, 2024.
Mr Smith described the "Agyapadie" document as treasonous, alleging that it outlines a plot by a small group within Ofori Panin Fie to capture state power and amass the nation's wealth. He claimed that the contents of the document are being implemented by the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led administration.
Furthermore, Mr Smith warned the Asantes to be cautious of the actions of those from Ofori Panin Fie, asserting that the Agyapadie document is a product of that household.
He cautioned that while the Asantes have long considered themselves staunch members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), they should be aware of what he alleges is an attempt by certain Akyems from Ofori Panin Fie to capture the state.
He urged them to vote for the NDC to put an end to the Akyem state capture.
