Bagbin thanks Mahama for endorsing his retention as Speaker in 9th Parliament
Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Ghana’s Eighth Parliament, has pledged unwavering dedication to his role if confirmed as the Speaker of the Ninth Parliament.
His assurance follows a directive from President-elect John Dramani Mahama for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary leadership to nominate Bagbin for the position.
The President-elect highlighted Bagbin’s extensive parliamentary experience and leadership qualities, expressing confidence in his ability to steer the legislative body effectively.
In response to his nomination, Bagbin conveyed profound gratitude to the President-elect, the NDC leadership, and the party’s parliamentary executives for entrusting him with this critical responsibility.
“I am deeply humbled by His Excellency’s confidence in my ability to lead the august House as we begin a new chapter in our nation’s democratic journey,” he remarked.
Reflecting on his long-standing commitment to governance, he added:
“Throughout my years of service to Parliament and the people of Ghana, I have always remained loyal to Ghana and committed to the principles of justice, fairness, and respect for the rule of law.”
Bagbin assured Ghanaians that as Speaker, he would uphold these principles, striving for a transparent, inclusive, and integrity-driven Parliament.
“I will, more than before, rededicate myself fully to the task ahead, working to strengthen our democratic institutions and ensuring that Parliament remains an effective and responsive institution to the needs and hopes of the people,” he pledged.
Bagbin also expressed appreciation to the NDC’s National Executives and Parliamentary Leadership for giving him the opportunity to serve a second term.
He promised to deliver on the trust placed in him, committing to work diligently to advance Ghana’s democracy and legislative progress.
