Bawumia supports Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie with GH₵410,000

The 2024 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has thrown his weight behind the party’s parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, with financial support of GH₵410,000 ahead of the crucial re-run in 19 polling stations on Friday, July 11, 2025.
Despite the NPP’s official decision to boycott the re-run, Nana Akua has chosen to contest, citing her firm belief that she already secured a decisive victory in the December 7, 2024, parliamentary election.
She maintains that the re-run will simply reaffirm the clear mandate given to her by the constituents.
Dr. Bawumia’s financial support is expected to bolster Nana Akua’s campaign efforts and boost morale among her team as they push to retain the seat for the NPP.
Sources close to the former Vice President confirmed the gesture, noting that Dr. Bawumia considers it a duty to support the party’s interests in all capacities, including the ongoing electoral process in Ablekuma North.
The re-run was necessitated after security concerns disrupted the collation of results in 19 polling stations during the 2024 general elections.
