Health Minister receives report on Tamale Teaching Hospital patient death

The Minister for Health, Mr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has received the final report from the independent committee established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a patient at the Tamale Teaching Hospital on April 13, 2025.
The committee, chaired by Mr. Abdul Rahim Mohamed, was mandated to examine the clinical, operational, and systemic factors that may have contributed to the incident, which drew widespread public concern and allegations of medical negligence.
Presenting the findings, Mr. Rahim disclosed that the committee engaged the patient’s family, consulted hospital staff across key units, including the emergency department and ICU, and reviewed the hospital’s standard operating procedures.
He noted that the report contains comprehensive recommendations aimed at improving operational efficiency and restoring public confidence in the facility.
He further underscored the strategic importance of Tamale Teaching Hospital, which serves not only the Northern Region but also neighbouring regions and parts of Burkina Faso, making system improvements critical to the wider health sector.
Receiving the report, Minister Akandoh praised the committee for its professionalism and assured the public that the Ministry will carefully study and implement the recommendations.
“The ultimate aim is to improve the quality of healthcare services in our country.
This report is not just for the Ministry, but for the people of Ghana, who deserve assurance that the system is being strengthened,” the Minister said.
He reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and patient safety, pledging closer collaboration with stakeholders to enhance healthcare delivery nationwide.
