GRNMA member denounces General Secretary over 'okro mouth' attacks on Health Minister

A member of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), M.K. Eric, has issued a strongly worded letter criticising the Association’s General Secretary, Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum, for what he described as unwarranted verbal attacks on the Minister of Health, Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.

In the letter, Eric accused Dr. Tenkorang-Twum of exhibiting “verbal diarrhoea,” questioning his leadership qualities, emotional intelligence, and impartiality.

The criticism follows Dr. Tenkorang-Twum’s reaction to an incident at Ridge Hospital in Accra, where an individual was seen recording health workers and patients after alleging neglect of a colleague.

The situation reportedly disrupted hospital activities.

According to Eric, the Minister’s immediate response—personally visiting the facility, assessing the matter, and ensuring the affected nurse received free treatment and compensation—was an example of responsible and decisive leadership.

In an interview with Fabea FM’s Apiah-Kubi, Eric further alleged that Dr. Tenkorang-Twum’s conduct suggested bias against the current government, warning that such behaviours risked tarnishing the credibility and image of GRNMA.

He also questioned whether Dr. Tenkorang-Twum was fit to serve as General Secretary, pointing to what he described as a lack of maturity and poor communication skills in handling sensitive professional matters.

Eric stressed that the controversy underscored the need for effective leadership, emotional intelligence, and constructive communication in professional associations, particularly those that frequently collaborate with government and other stakeholders
