C/R: Court remands NDC official, two others for threatening eyewitness in Awutu Senya West poster removal case
The Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Awutu Senya West, Cassius Otoo Larbi, and two others have been remanded into police custody by the Awutu Bereku District Court.
The court made the decision after the trio was accused of threatening an eyewitness who caught them removing campaign posters of Eugene Kofi Bentum Arhin, the parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The posters were allegedly taken down from equipment being used for the District Road Improvement Project. The suspects are to remain in custody for five days and are expected to reappear in court on Monday, 16 September 2024.
Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, Gizella Tetteh Agbotui, criticised the legal action, calling it “petty” and claiming that her own posters had also been removed. However, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Awutu Senya West, Moses Arhinful Acquah, clarified that the issue at hand was not about poster removal but the threats made against the eyewitness who tried to stop the group.
Mr. Acquah also referenced a previous incident involving Larbi and his group, where they allegedly disrupted Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s address at the annual Awubia Festival by playing loud music, which caught the attention of national security operatives.
