The Minority in Parliament has called on President John Mahama to dismiss the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Hon. Sam George, citing incompetence and deceit in his handling of issues relating to DStv subscription charges and data pricing.

Speaking on the Oman Ghana Nkosuo show on Accra-based CTV, hosted by Yaa Titi on Friday, October 3, Collins Kofi Asante, a member of the New Patriotic Party’s  Communications Team and Chairman of the Ablekuma South Constituency, accused the MP of allegedly “selling white lies” to the public.

According to him, Sam George promised to address the high cost of DSTV subscriptions and exorbitant data charges but failed to deliver, despite using state resources to engage in the matter.

Mr. Asante explained that although the legislator held several meetings with DSTV officials, no meaningful relief was secured for Ghanaians.

He argued that Sam George’s inability to produce results constitutes a betrayal of public trust.

He therefore aligned himself with the Minority Caucus, urging the President to either remove the MP or demand his resignation.

However, not everyone agrees with this position on the show. Richard Nii Aryee, also a member of the National Communications Team of the governing National Democratic Congress(NDC), defended the Minister, insisting that Sam George had been proactive and responsive to the concerns of Ghanaians.

According to Mr. Aryee, Sam George engaged with service providers in a genuine attempt to secure reductions in both DSTV subscription packages and data costs.

 He emphasised that Sam George had only been performing his duty by keeping the public updated on the outcomes of these meetings.

“He is the Minister of the people; he is not a sycophant, hypocrite or lackadaisical.

 He is not sitting on the job but working to find solutions for the people,” Aryee said.

He further argued that even former Communications Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful had not initiated such steps despite similar public complaints in the past.

Mr. Aryee, therefore, maintained that Sam George deserves commendation rather than criticism, stressing that his efforts have contributed to reductions in subscription and data costs.
