Effutu Sacred Forest Reserve: NDC challenges Afenyo-Markin to live up to 'honourable' title

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Effutu Constituency, Central Region, has urged their Member of Parliament, Mr Alexander Afenyo-Markin, to uphold the integrity of his position as an honourable member of the august House of Parliament.

The NDC alleges that the MP is providing inaccurate information regarding the lease of the Effutu Forest Reserve for the mining of lithium.

In response to the MP's assertion that the land in question had not been leased for lithium mining, Mr James Kofi Annan, the 2020 NDC Parliamentary Candidate for the Effutu Constituency, contradicted these claims.

He pointed out that the Minerals Commission had indeed granted a lease agreement to a company, covering the period from 2023 to 2026.

This information, according to Mr Annan, is publicly available on the Minerals Commission's website.

During an interview on Accra 100.5 FM's evening news on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, Mr Annan expressed concerns about the MP's denial of the forest reserve's leasing for mining purposes.

He accused the MP of lacking transparency and honesty in presenting the facts.

The NDC representative emphasised that the MP's actions were dishonourable, suggesting a deviation from the truth in addressing the issue.
