For now, 24-hour initiative answer for Ghana’s financial landscape – Mahama

The 2024 flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has put forward a groundbreaking proposal for a 24-hour economy, which he claims is the solution to Ghana’s pressing financial and economic issues.
During a special live broadcast themed: “Mahama Conversations,” the NDC flagbearer emphasised the critical nature of this initiative in addressing the country's current and future challenges.
Mr. Mahama outlined that the 24-hour economy would create an environment conducive to businesses, companies, and government agencies operating round-the-clock, thus driving job creation and boosting employment rates.
“The 24-hour initiative is the answer for now and in the future. It will create an enabling environment with deliberate policies for businesses, companies, and government institutions to operate 24/7 in a three-eight-hour shift system,” Mr. Mahama declared.
He stressed that the initiative would significantly enhance economic activity and foster growth across multiple sectors. By promoting continuous economic engagement, Mr. Mahama asserted that the standard of living for many Ghanaians would greatly improve.
“In addition to the traditional 8-hour shift system, the two additional work shifts that my administration will introduce will double and sometimes triple the number of jobs that participate in public and private entities that we currently have,” he explained.
Mr. Mahama detailed his 24-hour economy optimisation strategy, aimed at increasing societal contributions, providing efficient service delivery, and generating decent and well-paying jobs.
He elaborated on the wide-ranging benefits of this system, which would ensure round-the-clock operations in various sectors.
“This is the 24-hour economy optimisation strategy: giving more to society, providing efficient service delivery, and generating decent and well-paying jobs. The benefits of this system will include but not be limited to 24-hour port and harbour services, 24-hour customs services, 24-hour DVLA services, 24-hour agro-processing factories, 24-hour manufacturing industries, 24-hour construction companies, and many more,” Mr. Mahama elaborated.
