GA/R:NDC exposes alleged illegal voter transfer scheme in Tema East

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tema East Constituency of the Greater Accra Region has reportedly apprehended several individuals from Kpone Katamanso involved in an alleged illegal voter transfer scheme aimed at bolstering the New Patriotic Party (NPP) votes in the area.
The scheme purportedly orchestrated by Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) and NPP Parliamentary Candidate, Mr. Yohane Amarh Ashitey, was exposed by the NDC Constituency Executives, Branch Executives, and the party's internal security.
According to reports, the NPP candidate was caught red-handed facilitating the transfer of voters from Kpone Katamanso to Tema East.
As of Thursday, June 6, 2024, several individuals involved in the scheme have been apprehended.
These individuals have confirmed that Mr. Ashitey orchestrated the operation, providing them with GHS 200 and takeaway food packs to incentivize their participation.
Some of the bused individuals admitted they were actually sympathetic to the NDC but were coerced to transfer their votes and pledge their support for both John Dramani Mahama for president and Mr. Ashitey for the parliamentary seat under the NPP.
In a statement, the Tema East Constituency Communications Bureau of the NDC called on security agencies and the Electoral Commission to take immediate action to address this issue. They warned that failure to act would result in the NDC taking measures to resist these illegal transfers by any means necessary.
The NDC's allegations come amidst heightened political tension as Ghana approaches its 2024 general elections. Voter transfer schemes have been a contentious issue, with both major parties accusing each other of attempting to manipulate voter registration processes to gain an electoral advantage
