I wasn't paid as Gender Minister – Cynthia Mamle Morrison
According to Madam Cynthia Mamle Morrison, MP for Agona West, she was never paid when she served as Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection.
She spoke to GHOne TV.
The news anchor mentioned her tenure as a minister, and asked if she had been approached by members of her former party New Patriotic Party (NPP) and given money to reconsider running as an independent candidate in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
"I never received a dime for being a minister, I only received my salary as a member of parliament," she responded. "So I don't know when they offered money to step up or step down. Nobody has offered me any money."
After losing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries to Christopher Arthur, MP Mamle Morrison elected to contest in the December 7, 2024, elections as an independent candidate.
On Thursday, October 17, since she had crossed the floor, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban S. K. Bagbin, declared her seat vacant, together with three others.
Today, Tuesday, October 22, pictures surfaced of her fraternising with some members of the NPP side in parliament, including the leader Afenyo-Markin, sparking the rumour she had decided to stay with the NPP, ditching her independent candidacy.
"I went to parliament today. Unfortunately, we couldn't sit. We had a caucus meeting. I had a few interactions with my colleagues and we took pictures," she added.
She said she "had a couple of pictures with [Alexander] Afenyo-Markin, Kennedy [Agyapong] and Mama Pat - pictures in the chamber and pictures in our offices," emphasising: "pictures doesn't mean anything".
"I don't even know who took the pictures out there to say I have been offered anything," she bemoaned.
"Ask the minority and the majority whether we offer money for anything. Nobody has offered me any money, and I haven't told anybody I'm stepping down," she said.
The lawmaker categorically stated "it is not true" she had dropped out of the 2024 parliamentary elections, also.
