Independent Member of Parliament-elect for Gomoa Central Kwame Asare Obeng, alias Kwame A-Plus, has decided to join the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus in the 9th Parliament.

On Monday, January 6, 2025, the eve of President-elect John Mahama's inauguration, A-Plus posted pictures of him in the office of NDC caucus leader Cassiel Ato Baah Forson on his verified Facebook page.

In the four images, the two politicians were shown shaking hands while sitting and standing respectively. 

For a caption, rapper, entrepreneur and politician A-Plus used handshake and thumb-up emojis. 

In an earlier post, he claimed the out-going New Patriotic Party (NPP) had made moves to draw him into their fold. This was later disputed by the party, however.  

"The NPP, led by Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, has officially approached me to discuss aligning with them in Parliament. Their proposal includes several intriguing agreements, such as a commitment that they will not contest the Gomoa Central parliamentary seat in the 2028 election.  

"The NDC, with whom I genuinely wish to align, has also invited me for a meeting tomorrow at 8 a.m.  

"While I have friends in both the NDC and NPP, they have to understand that I will have to disappoint someone tomorrow.  

"Let me make this simple and clear: deep down, my heart leans toward the NDC, but I will ultimately side with whoever has my interest at heart and provides the best offer for me and the people of Gomoa Central," Kwame A-Plus wrote.

Aligning with the NDC in Parliament, A-Plus is in tandem with the three remaining independent MP-elects.

With an original 183 elected MPs, and the subsequent collaboration of four independents, the NDC has gone past the 184-seat threshold needed to achieve a supermajority.

The erstwhile main opposition led by former President Mahama now has a crucial two-thirds majority of the Parliament, about three months after a tug-of-war over the majority status with the erstwhile NPP majority.

Furthermore, Alban S. K. Bagbin has been maintained as the Speaker of Parliament.
