Interior Minister warns against attacks on security personnel as Eastern Regional Security Command is inaugurated

The Minister for the Interior and Minister responsible for National Security, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed, has issued a stern warning to communities across the country to refrain from attacking security personnel or installations, stressing that such actions will no longer be tolerated.
Speaking at the inauguration of the National Security Bureau’s Eastern Regional Command in Koforidua, the Minister cautioned that any community involved in such attacks would face the full force of the law.
Alhaji Muntaka reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening public safety and security, noting that the establishment of the new command aligns with the NDC government’s manifesto pledge under Section 6.4 to review and reform Ghana’s national security architecture.
The goal, he said, is to enhance professionalism, efficiency, and responsiveness among the country’s security agencies.
He emphasised that the new Eastern Regional Command marks an important step toward modernising Ghana’s intelligence framework, enabling security institutions to respond effectively to emerging threats and ensure the safety of citizens.
In a related address, the National Security Coordinator, DCOP Abdul Osman Razak, highlighted the rising threat of cybercrime and the misuse of digital platforms and social media for fraudulent and extremist activities.
He warned that criminal networks continue to exploit Ghana’s digital space to defraud individuals and institutions, posing significant national security risks.
DCOP Razak underscored the need for a coordinated and technology-driven intelligence system to counter these growing challenges.
He commended the Director-General and staff of the National Signals Bureau for their professionalism and dedication in ensuring that the new facility meets modern intelligence and surveillance standards.
The inauguration of the Eastern Regional Command is expected to enhance inter-agency cooperation, improve information flow, and strengthen Ghana’s overall intelligence and security response framework.
