It’s time we wage war on poverty through a strong and effective education system – Dr Adutwum

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant and Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has called for a national commitment to fighting poverty through the strengthening of Ghana’s education system.
The former Minister for Education said the most sustainable way to transform lives and communities is to ensure that every Ghanaian child has access to quality education that empowers them for the future.
Addressing party delegates and stakeholders during his campaign tour, Dr Adutwum stressed that education remains the “most powerful weapon” in eradicating poverty and bridging inequality.
“It’s time we wage war on poverty through a strong and effective education system,” he declared.
“If we get education right, everything else will fall into place — from job creation and innovation to national development.”
Dr Adutwum, who has been widely commended for spearheading Ghana’s education reforms, emphasised the need to invest more in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, as well as Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
He noted that such investments would equip young people with practical skills to drive industrial growth and innovation.
“The future of Ghana lies in a knowledge-based economy. We must train thinkers, innovators, and problem solvers who can compete globally,” he said.
He further assured delegates of his commitment to continue transforming Ghana’s education sector if elected as the NPP flagbearer.
According to Dr Adutwum, his leadership would focus on policies that promote access, equity and excellence in education.
“My vision is to make education the heartbeat of our national transformation agenda — because an educated population is the surest path to prosperity,” he stated.
