Kennedy Agyapong addresses clash with Abronye DC during NPP 'Thank You Tour'
Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central Constituency in the Central Region, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has broken his silence on a recent public altercation with Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The clash occurred during the NPP's ongoing national Thank You Tour led by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, with the incident taking place in Berekum in the Bono Region on Monday.
Mr. Agyapong made it clear that he would not allow any party member to disrespect him in public.
“I would not allow Abronye DC to diss me anyhow in front of people without responding,” he said.
“Respect must be mutual. I will not sit and be insulted publicly without defending myself.”
Although he refrained from detailing the cause of the dispute, Mr. Agyapong’s comments shed light on simmering tensions within the NPP following its loss in the 2024 general elections.
Mr. Agyapong, who finished second in the party’s recent presidential primaries and commands significant grassroots support, stressed the importance of mutual respect within the party.
He made it clear that he would not tolerate any form of public humiliation, regardless of a person's rank or title.
The incident has sparked conversation among party faithful, many of whom are calling for unity and reconciliation as the NPP works to rebuild and strategise for future elections.
He spoke in an interview on Good Morning Ghana on Accra-based Metro TV.
