Legal team for Dr. Abdul-Hamid debunks OSP’s GHS100m asset seizure allegation
Lawyers for the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, have refuted claims by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) suggesting that assets worth over GHS100 million linked to their client have been seized.
Responding to the OSP’s recent social media publication, Hay & Partners at Law, the legal counsel of Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid described the OSP’s claims as “false, misleading, and injurious.”
"We wish to place on record, emphatically and without ambiguity, that no assets or businesses belonging to or associated with our client have been identified, traced, or seized by the OSP.
Our client owns no such assets, directly or indirectly, and no property worth the stated amount exists anywhere in connection with him," the statement said.
The lawyers said their client has fully cooperated with the OSP since the beginning of the investigation, honouring all invitations and appearing at every court sitting.
They described as “deeply regrettable” what they called the OSP’s “public theatrics and false reportage,” urging the office to focus on its prosecutorial duties rather than “media sensationalism.”
They concluded by reminding the public that Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid remains innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the 1992 Constitution, cautioning that any attempt to influence public opinion through misinformation undermines the rule of law and the integrity of the judicial process.
