Mahama rejects termination calls, affirms NLA–KGL contract with strategic reviews — Razak Kojo Opoku reveals
The government of President John Dramani Mahama has rejected calls to terminate the licensing agreement between the National Lottery Authority (NLA) and KGL Technology Limited (KGL), reaffirming that the contract remains valid and fully supported by the administration.
In a statement released on January 8, 2026, Dr Razak Kojo Opoku, former Head of Public Relations at the NLA, noted that efforts by the investigative group The Fourth Estate to push for cancellation of the deal had been unsuccessful.
He clarified that the government’s approach centres on strategic review and renegotiation of the contract, rather than outright termination.
Dr Opoku explained that the ongoing review, conducted by the Attorney-General’s Department and the Ministry of Justice, aligns with contractual provisions allowing for periodic assessment and adjustments.
He stressed that the NLA–KGL agreement will continue to operate during the review to safeguard the interests of the state, the NLA, the Ghana Revenue Authority, and KGL.
He also dismissed claims that advocacy by The Fourth Estate and the Media Foundation for West Africa prompted the review, describing such suggestions as a “failed propaganda campaign.”
According to Dr Opoku, the NLA Board independently initiated the legal review before any petitions reached the Office of the President.
