President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in his capacity as Chair of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), will, on Tuesday, 15 September 2020, meet leaders of ECOWAS member states on the political turmoil in Mali.

The consultative meeting will be held at Ghana’s Peduase Presidential Lodge.

Addressing the press ahead of the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, said the current situation in Mali poses a threat to not just that country but West African nations, hence the need for leaders to dialogue on finding a lasting solution to the impasse.

Ahead of the meeting, some major roads in the capital will be blocked for the smooth passage of the West African leaders.

The affected roads include:

The Jubilee Lounge (Kotoka International Airport) to the Liberation road at Opeibea, Airport by-pass through the Liberation road

Kempinski Hotel to National Theatre on the Independence Avenue, the Liberation road through to N4 to Peduase.

Liberation road from 37 through Obasanjo Street to Tang Palace Hotel.

Independence Avenue from National theatre to Arko-Adjei.

Mali’s President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta has been ousted by the military in a coup.

Attempts by ECOWAS to end the crisis has failed so far.

This has led to the meeting of the regional leaders by Akufo-Addo
