Michael Okyere Baafi hosts 2025 Christmas ‘Shop for Free’ initiative for the elderly in New Juaben South
Hundreds of elderly residents in New Juaben South benefitted from the 2025 Christmas Shop for Free initiative hosted by the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Michael Okyere Baafi, at the Methodist AstroTurf in Betom, Koforidua.
The event, held yesterday, targeted senior citizens aged 65 years and above, providing them with essential food items and household supplies at no cost.
Speaking at the event, Mr Okyere Baafi described the initiative as a way of restoring dignity and spreading festive joy among the elderly during the Christmas season.
“This initiative is about ensuring that our senior citizens feel valued, cared for, and supported, especially at a time when many face economic challenges,” he said.
He noted that the programme brought relief and happiness to many homes across the constituency.
Beyond the distribution of essential items, beneficiaries also received free health screenings and cosmetology services, including hairdressing, manicure, and pedicure.
According to the MP, the additional services were intended to make the event a wholesome experience focused on both physical well-being and personal dignity.
“We wanted this to be more than shopping; we wanted it to be a full day of care and celebration,” he added.
Mr Okyere Baafi reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive leadership, stressing that vulnerable groups would always remain a priority under his tenure.
“As MP for New Juaben South, I remain committed to ensuring that no one is left behind, particularly during the festive season,” he stated, pledging to continue supporting initiatives that improve the welfare of the elderly.
He expressed gratitude to the organising team, volunteers, sponsors, and partners whose collective efforts ensured the success of the event.
“I am deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to making this day memorable,” he said, while extending Christmas wishes to residents.
“May the joy of Christmas fill every home and every heart.”
