The Movement for Change, founded by former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kyerematen, has officially rebranded into a political party under the new name United Party (UP).

The transformation marks a significant step in Mr. Kyerematen’s political journey as he prepares to contest future elections with a fully recognised political organisation.

The new party identity, according to its leadership, reflects a broader vision of national unity, inclusiveness, and development-oriented leadership.

Mr. Kyerematen, who resigned from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2023 to establish the Movement for Change, had previously announced his intention to create a political movement that would “restore hope and integrity in governance.”

The party got its certificate from the EC on October 3, and adds that it believes in nation-building for all Ghanaians.

The interim Chairman of the party, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, at an unveiling ceremony, said the new United Party has regional and constituency structures that are already being set up across the country in preparation for the grand launch of the party

Political observers view this rebranding as a strategic move to consolidate Mr. Kyerematen’s support base and provide an alternative to the two major political parties — the NPP and NDC.

The announcement of  the United Party is expected to be followed by a national address outlining the party’s vision, policy priorities, and roadmap ahead of the 2028 general elections by the party's founder, Alan Kyeremanten.
