NDC Youth Wing condemns alleged unlawful arrests by Ghana Armed Forces in Binduri
The Upper East Regional Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly condemned what it describes as the unlawful arrest of several youths from Binduri by members of the Ghana Armed Forces.
The arrests, which the NDC alleges were carried out under orders "from above," have ignited anger and concern among party members and the local community.
In an official press release, Mr Samson Samari, the Deputy Regional Youth Organizer in charge of Operations, voiced his strong disapproval of the incident.
"We believe this action aims to intimidate the youth from demanding a change in Binduri's political leadership," Samari stated.
He further alleged that the operation was orchestrated by one Abdulai Abanga, the current Deputy Minister for Local Government and former Member of Parliament for Binduri.
Mr Samari accused Mr Abanga of using the military to suppress opposition voices ahead of the December 7, 2024, elections, in which he anticipates being defeated.
The NDC Youth Wing claims that the military operation took place on August 12, 2024, when two armoured vehicles from the Ghana Armed Forces reportedly descended on the homes of two individuals in Binduri.
According to the NDC, the individuals were subjected to brutal treatment before being taken to a military base in Bawku.
One of the victims is said to have sustained serious injuries and received treatment at Van Yard Hospital before being airlifted to an undisclosed location in Accra.
Mr Samari underscored the primary role of the Ghana Armed Forces, stating that they are meant to protect citizens, not "torture innocent civilians" under the orders of higher authorities.
He demanded the immediate release of the detained youth and warned that failure to do so would result in "stronger actions" from the NDC Youth Wing, which remains resolute in its pursuit of justice for their comrades.
