NDC elects 2024 flag bearer, parliamentary candidates today
The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is billed to elect a flag bearer and parliamentary candidates for the 2024 general elections today, Saturday, 13 May 2023.
There were three flag bearer aspirants but one of them, Dr Kwabena Duffuor, pulled out of the race at the last minute.
He told journalists on the eve of the primaries that he has been "left with no choice" than to take that route, as "I cannot contest in an election which is blatantly fraught with irregularities regardless of all my efforts to draw attention to save it".
Dr Duffuor earlier filed an interlocutory injuntion that sought to freeze the conduct of the primaries.
He later withdrew the suit from court paving the way for the polls to come off as scheduled.
The primaries are being held throughout the country simultaneously.
The flag bearer race is now a straight fight between former President John Mahama and former Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu.
Some incumbent MPs and aspirants are going unopposed but majority of the parliamentary aspirants would have to fight their way through.
