Johnson Asiedu Nketia, NDC National Chairman

The National Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has assured party supporters in the Tamale Central Constituency of the Northern Region that the leadership will ensure a fair and transparent process in selecting a candidate to replace the late Member of Parliament, Mohammed Ibrahim Mutala.

Speaking during a visit to the family of the late MP, Mr. Nketia announced that the party will soon constitute a committee to oversee the selection process.

He explained that the committee’s findings will guide the NDC’s decision in choosing a candidate for the upcoming by-election, following last week’s tragic military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region that claimed the lives of eight people, including the Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and the late Minister of Environment, Science, Innovation and Technology, Mohammed Ibrahim Mutala.

Mr. Nketia urged party members to remain united and to support the leadership’s final decision, stressing that the choice will be one that resonates with the people of Tamale Central.

He assured that the process will uphold equity and help reconcile any differences within the constituency.

While calling on party faithful to exercise restraint as the nation mourns the departed, Mr. Nketia expressed gratitude to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for its decision not to contest the Tamale Central by-election in honour of the late MP.
