Dr. Mary Awusi, the Deputy Director of Inter-Party and Civil Society Organizations (CSO) for the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has cautioned the party's members to be vigilant about the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) alleged rigging tactics leading up to the general elections on December 7, 2024.

Dr. Awusi claims that the NPP's election rigging strategy is being implemented in stages as the electoral process unfolds.

Speaking on The Citizen’s Show hosted by KOJ on Accra 100.5 FM on Monday, May 27, 2024, Dr. Awusi identified several phases of the alleged rigging mechanism.

She noted the recruitment of NPP-affiliated individuals as electoral officers for the upcoming elections and the theft of Biometric Verification Devices from the Electoral Commission’s secure storage as part of these phases.

Dr. Awusi also highlighted vote suppression in NDC strongholds as a key tactic, stating that these strategies are part of the NPP’s broader plan to influence the 2024 elections. Additionally, she accused the NPP of registering minors in the Ashanti Region to bolster their numbers in the party’s stronghold.

She referenced comments made by Sammy Awuku, the campaign advisor for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s 2024 campaign, who claimed that the NPP would win the elections through strategy rather than economic issues.

Dr. Awusi emphasized that this should serve as a wake-up call for the NDC, especially in light of procedural lapses by the EC during the Limited Registration exercise.

In conclusion, Dr. Awusi’s remarks are a call to action for the NDC to address and counter these alleged rigging tactics to ensure a fair electoral process.
