PNP accepts EC's disqualification of Janet Nabla from Dec. 7 polls, chooses to move on
The People's National Party (PNP) presidential candidate, Janet Asana Nabla, has decided not to pursue legal action following her disqualification from the upcoming December presidential race.
The Electoral Commission (EC) disqualified Ms. Nabla for failing to correct errors in her nomination form, a move the PNP strongly opposes.
In a statement issued on Thursday, 3 October 2024, the PNP indicated its disagreement with the EC’s decision but confirmed that Ms. Nabla will not take the issue to court.
"After consulting with members across the country, the party has chosen to let it go and focus on securing its final certificate to operate as a full-fledged political party," the statement said.
The party emphasised its broader purpose beyond elections, noting its commitment to public education on political issues and policies.
"As a political party, we are not solely about contesting elections but educating citizens to help them make informed decisions on political matters and government policies," the PNP stated.
The party also affirmed its dedication to holding the government accountable, with plans to review policies, propose alternatives, and promote transparency.
"In addition, the PNP will hold the government of the day accountable by reviewing policies, proposing alternatives, and ensuring transparency," the statement added.
