Pray for EC – Bawumia tells Ghanaians
The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has appealed to Ghanaians to pray for the Electoral Commission (EC) for divine guidance as it prepares for the 2024 general elections.
Dr. Bawumia made this call while submitting his presidential nomination forms to the EC on Monday, September 9, 2024.
Accompanied by his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, their spouses, and other party leaders, Dr. Bawumia presented his nomination forms for scrutiny and clearance, marking the first time a sitting Vice President has filed to contest the presidential election.
He is also the first presidential candidate to submit his forms to the EC ahead of this year’s elections.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the immense responsibility of the EC to conduct the upcoming elections and stressed the importance of prayers for the Commission’s guidance.
"The task ahead of the EC in conducting this year's elections is a Herculean one, and Ghanaians must pray for them as they ensure the smooth running of the elections," he stated.
Dr. Bawumia also expressed his confidence in the EC's ability to conduct a free and fair election.
In response, the EC Chairperson, Jean Adukwei Mensa, assured that a special team has been set up to ensure all candidates comply with the electoral requirements.
She expressed confidence that the process would be conducted fairly.
