Prof. Frimpong-Boateng slams NPP, says party has abandoned its core values
Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, a renowned cardiothoracic surgeon and former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, has launched a scathing critique of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing the party of abandoning the core values on which it was founded.
Speaking in a recent interview on Accra-based Channel One TV, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng said the current state of the NPP no longer reflects the principles, discipline and integrity that once defined the party.
“The present NPP is not NPP. It is fake. From what I see now, this is not the NPP I used to know,” he stated.
The former Minister expressed particular concern over the party’s internal electoral processes, especially the selection of its most recent flagbearer.
According to him, the process was marred by undue influence, bribery and intimidation of delegates, practices he warned were deeply corrosive to democratic culture within the party.
“Look at how they elected their last flagbearer—twisting people’s arms, bribing delegates and intimidating others to get a flagbearer.
This is the beginning of corruption,” Prof. Frimpong-Boateng said.
He cautioned that such conduct should not be tolerated in any serious political institution, stressing that internal democracy and ethical leadership are essential for any party that seeks to govern the country.
“This should not be allowed in any serious institution or any serious party,” he added.
Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s comments add to growing internal criticism within the NPP, as senior party figures and grassroots members raise concerns about governance, transparency and the future direction of the party.
His remarks are expected to further intensify debate about reforms and accountability within the party ahead of future elections.
