Razak Kojo Opoku questions validity of Bawumia’s Eastern Region NPP MPs endorsements

Founder of the UP Tradition Institute, Dr. Razak Kojo Opoku, has cast doubt on claims that 15 Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Eastern Region have endorsed Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) preferred candidate for the 2028 elections.
Describing the excitement in Dr. Bawumia’s camp as “laughable,” Dr. Opoku argued that the numbers do not support the narrative of a strong endorsement.
“Let’s do simple arithmetic: 33 constituencies minus 15 equals 18.
Mathematically, 18 is still larger than 15,” he said, suggesting that the majority of MPs in the region have yet to declare their support for Dr. Bawumia.
He further criticised what he described as poor data handling by the Vice President’s supporters, drawing a comparison with the NPP’s 2024 electoral deficit.
“No wonder they are equating a 1.7 million votes deficit to ‘Aka 9 p3,’” he added.
Dr. Opoku went on to argue that even if all 87 sitting NPP MPs were to endorse Dr. Bawumia, the party would still face the bigger task of securing victory in 189 orphan constituencies nationwide.
“Respectfully, looking carefully at their faces, it shows that the confidence of winning is zero,” he concluded.
