Repatriating Ahafo residents to Kumasi ‘unfair and unjust’ – Dr Boako fumes
Member of Parliament for Tano North, Dr Gideon Boako, has criticised the decision to transfer residents arrested in Hwediem, Ahafo Region, to Kumasi for detention, describing it as “unfair and unjust.”
He said the action placed unnecessary hardship on the affected individuals and their families, limiting access to legal representation and family support.
In a statement condemning the military swoop, Dr Boako said justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done locally.
“This action places undue hardship on the arrested citizens and their families, making access to legal representation and basic family support unnecessarily difficult,” he said.
He called for the immediate return of all detained persons to police facilities within the Ahafo Region.
The MP emphasised that all legal and procedural requirements regarding the place of detention must be strictly followed to ensure fairness and transparency.
“We urge the security services to return the arrested persons to a police facility within the Ahafo Region to ensure fair treatment and easy access to their rights,” he added.
Dr Boako reaffirmed his call for a lawful and measured response to the incident while encouraging the people of Hwediem to remain calm.
He urged the security services to exercise restraint and ensure that justice is pursued without infringing upon the rights of innocent citizens.
