Respect Akufo-Addo’s orders and stop Ghana card registration – NDC MP Aspirant to NIA
The Suhum Parliamentary Candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Amanda Okyere Kwatia has asked the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Identification Authority (NIA) Professor Ken Attafuah, to halt the Ghana Card registration exercise in respect to the directive given by President Akufo-Addo against all social gatherings in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak in Ghana.
Speaking on the Ghana Yensom show on Accra 100.5FM on Wednesday, 18 March 2020, Ms Kwatia wondered why the NIA is violating the president’s order.
“Who is Ghana's president, is it Nana Addo Dankwa or Ken Attafuah?” she asked.
“The NIA must stop the registration now because it puts Ghanaians at risk of getting infected,” she said.
Ghana has so far recorded nine cases of COVID-19.
The NIA says the mass registration exercise of the Ghana card currently ongoing in the Eastern region will continue despite the outbreak of coronavirus in the country. The NIA, however, said Supervising Registration Officers were to ensure that no more than 25 persons including field officials are present at a registration center at any given time and also insist that applicants keep a social distance of two metres when at a registration center.
