Stephen Amoah: Nhyiaeso MP spots Ken Agyapong as delegates' potential favourite to led NPP in 2028
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Nhyiaeso, Stephen Amoah, has observed a growing enthusiasm and momentum within Kennedy Agyapong’s camp, which he has said clearly demonstrates that the former Assin Central MP and businessman remained the most popular flagbearer candidate among New Patriotic Party (NPP) party members.
“All indications point to the fact that Kennedy Agyapong stands tall among the contenders, and the energy within his camp shows that victory is within reach,” he asserted.
He described the recent declaration by 63 NPP MPs endorsing former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as a deliberate attempt to mislead party delegates.
Speaking in an interview with the media, MP Amoah alleged that the endorsement was orchestrated by some influential figures within the main opposition party to create the impression that Dr Bawumia had overwhelming support ahead of the upcoming presidential primaries in January 2026.
He revealed that shortly after the public declaration, some of the same MPs were seen contributing resources — including laptop donations — to the campaign team of another flagbearer hopeful, former Assin Central MP and businessman Kennedy Agyapong, as a sign of their true allegiance.
In January 2026, the NPP decides their flagbearer, from among five: Ken Agyapong, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Ing Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.
The next presidential election will happen in December 2028.
